Frequently asked questions before your journey

Here we’ve gathered practical information to help you prepare for your trip to Sälen.

Can we book a package holiday with train and accommodation?

Yes, you can book a package including train travel, transfer bus, accommodation and ski pass via our partner SkiStar.

Read more at SkiStar (opens in a new tab).

Can we book the journey only?

Yes, you can book train travel with a connecting transfer bus via our online booking at the top of the page or via the homepage.

Search for your journey all the way to one of the stops in Sälen, and the transfer bus will be added automatically when you book. The bus stops at the following locations:

  • Lindvallen, Experiumtorget
  • Lindvallen, Sälsfjällstorget
  • Högfjällshotellet
  • Tandådalstorget
  • Hundfjällstorget

Once you have made a search, the yellow-highlighted dates in the booking calendar show the days when we operate services to Sälen.

How much luggage can we bring?

Each passenger may bring two pieces of hand luggage (55 × 45 × 25 cm). If you book a private compartment, you may bring additional luggage to store in your compartment.

To make your journey smoother, we recommend packing in smaller, soft bags rather than one large hard suitcase. Smaller bags are easier to carry on board and can be placed on the luggage rack or between seats. Larger suitcases can be more difficult to handle and may obstruct aisles or emergency exits.

The train also has a luggage carriage where you can check in larger items such as large suitcases, sledges, pushchairs and skis. The fee for checked luggage is SEK 149 per item and per direction.

You can pre-book luggage check-in when purchasing your ticket or add it later via My Journey.

What are the rules for changing or cancelling a booking?

Tickets may be changed if cancellation is made no later than 24 hours before departure (7 days before departure for a private compartment). Refundable tickets are available as an optional add-on.

For travel to Sälen, special conditions apply. The journey is sold as a return journey only, and it is not possible to cancel one leg of the trip. This also applies to any connecting journeys included in the same booking.

Please see further information about changes, cancellations and refunds.

How environmentally friendly is the journey to Sälen?

Travelling with Snälltåget is a climate-friendly alternative. The train runs on renewable electricity, and the connecting bus to Sälen operates on renewable diesel (HVO100).
