Food and drink on board

On the journey, Snälltåget’s popular dining car, Krogen, is available on board. Here you can sit down in a relaxed setting and enjoy a hot meal while the train travels north through Sweden.

To guarantee a table, we recommend booking a table and pre-ordering your meal when purchasing your ticket. You can also add both table reservations and meals later via My journey.

Krogen also features a self-service counter – ideal if you would like to buy something quickly and take it back to your seat. Coffee, tea, water, soft drinks, sandwiches, pastries and snacks are available.

Frequently asked questions before your journey

Here you will find practical information about travelling on the overnight train.

How does travelling on the overnight train work?

On board, you can choose between different comfort options depending on how you wish to travel.

Seat – the most affordable option

You travel in a standard seat in an open carriage or in a compartment with up to six seats. A good option if you want to travel at the lowest price.

First class seat – for solo travellers

You sit in a wider and more comfortable armchair than a standard seat. A pillow, pillowcase, blanket and sheet are included.

Berth in a shared compartment – for solo travellers

You share a compartment with other passengers (up to six people). The compartment is arranged for seating when you board and is converted into sleeping mode at night. In sleeping mode, there are three berths on each side. Upper berths are accessed by ladder. A pillow, pillowcase, sheet and duvet are provided in the compartment.

Private compartment – for travelling together

With a private compartment, you and your party have the compartment to yourselves (up to six people). The compartment is arranged for seating when boarding and is converted into sleeping mode for the night. Bedding is provided and you make up the berths yourselves. A private compartment is ideal for families, friends or travellers who prefer more privacy.

Is there a dining car on board?

Yes, the overnight train has the dining car Krogen on board. It is popular, so we recommend booking a table in advance.

Is breakfast served on board?

Yes! Start your day with breakfast in Krogen or take a breakfast bag back to your compartment.

Breakfast includes:

  • a cheese sandwich (double roll)
  • a cinnamon bun
  • juice
  • a hot drink (coffee, tea or hot chocolate)

Please pre-book breakfast when purchasing your ticket or via My Journey. Breakfast costs SEK 99 when pre-booked (SEK 109 if purchased on board). Vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options are available.

Can I bring a pet on the journey?

Yes, pets are allowed in the Seat and Private compartment options. Select “I want to travel with a pet” in the first step of the booking process.

Read more about travelling with pets.

How much luggage can I bring?

You may bring two pieces of hand luggage (55 × 45 × 25 cm). If you book a Private compartment, you may bring additional luggage into the compartment.

To make your journey smoother, we recommend packing in smaller, soft bags rather than one large hard suitcase. Smaller bags are easier to carry on board and fit on the luggage racks or between seats. Larger suitcases can be more difficult to handle and may block aisles or emergency exits.

The train has a luggage van where you can check in larger items, such as suitcases, prams or outdoor equipment. The cost for checked luggage is SEK 149 per item and per journey.

You can pre-book luggage check-in when purchasing your ticket or later via My Journey.

If you are travelling in a Seat or Berth in a shared compartment, larger luggage must be checked into the luggage van.

What are the rules for changes and cancellations?

Tickets can be changed if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure (7 days before departure for a Private compartment on overnight trains). Refundable tickets are also available at an additional cost.

For the overnight train to Narvik, special conditions apply. The journey is sold as a return trip only and it is not possible to cancel only one leg of the journey. This also applies to connecting journeys booked in the same reservation.
