How does travelling by night train to the mountains work?
Boarding Snälltåget's night train marks the beginning of your mountain adventure. You can choose between different levels of comfort, but if you are travelling together, the best experience is to book a Private Compartment. In the evening, you can socialise, play games, and visit our restaurant car "Krogen".
Seat – the budget-friendly option
You get a seat in a coach or a compartment with space for 6 people.
Seats are only available when changing trains in Östersund (Wednesdays from Malmö and Stockholm and Thursdays from Vemdalen) or when travelling from Röjan on Sundays to Uppsala and Stockholm.
Seat 1st Class – for solo travellers
You travel in a comfortable armchair, which is wider than a regular seat. A pillow with a pillowcase, blanket, and sheet are included.
Berth in a Shared Compartment – for solo travellers
You share a compartment with other passengers (up to 6 people). When you board, the compartment is in seating mode, and when it’s time for bed, you and your fellow travellers convert the compartment to night mode. In night mode, there are three berths on each side of the compartment. The upper berths are accessible by a ladder. A pillow, pillowcase, sheet, and duvet are provided in the compartment.
Private Compartment – for groups travelling together
You have a private compartment for yourself or your group of up to six people. You switch the compartment from seating mode to night mode and make the beds with the provided bedding.
Private compartments are available for those travelling overnight.
Is there a restaurant on board?
Enjoying something tasty in our restaurant car is an essential part of a mountain holiday. Visiting our restaurant Krogen is very popular, so we offer table reservations.
Do I need to book breakfast in advance?
Start your day with breakfast in Krogen or take a breakfast bag to your compartment.
The breakfast bag includes a double cheese sandwich, cinnamon bun, fruit, juice, and a hot drink (coffee, hot chocolate, or tea).
Pre-book breakfast so we know you want breakfast! You get a better start to the day, and we avoid guessing how many want breakfast, running out of stock, or worse, wasting food.
Breakfast costs 89 SEK when you pre-order (99 SEK when purchasing onboard).
Bringing pets on the train to the mountains?
You can travel with a pet in the designated compartment when you book a Seat. Animals are also allowed in Private Compartments. Make sure you book the correct compartment by checking the box "I want to travel with a pet" in the first step of the online booking.
What are the rules for luggage and skis?
You can bring one carry-on bag of 55x45x25 cm.
On train 3900/3901 to Östersund, Undersåker, Åre, Duved, and Storlien, there is a luggage car where you can check in larger luggage, such as large suitcases, sleds, prams, and skis. The price for checking in skis and luggage is 99 SEK per item per route.
You can pre-book luggage check-in through our online booking system. If you've already booked your tickets, you can add luggage check-in via My Journey.
Please note that the check-in service is not available for passengers travelling to Härjedalen.
If you are travelling in a Berth in Shared Compartment or Seat, you need to check in your skis when travelling on train 3900/3901.
If you book a Private Compartment, you can bring more luggage. If there are empty seats in the compartment, you can use one of the beds for luggage storage. Note that the space in the compartment is limited – pack in several smaller, flexible bags such as duffel bags and backpacks, rather than one large and heavy suitcase.

Can I cancel or rebook my journey?
When you purchase a ticket on Snälltåget.se, you can reschedule it if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure (or 7 days before for a private compartment on night trains). Refundable tickets are also available for an additional fee.
For travel on Snälltåget's night trains 3904/3905 and 13904/13905 to Röjan, specific ticket rules apply. The journey can only be purchased as a round trip, and it is not possible to cancel just one leg of the journey. This also applies to connecting routes purchased in the same booking.
